What do people say about this cruise control and how does it compare?
I have installed both the MDC and the Area451 unit in different smarts, and can say definitively that the MDC unit install is easier. Both work well, but bang for the buck, the MDC unit just does more. Area 451 is a cruise control unit. The MDC offers cruise control, with a settable governor, and optional theft deterrent system, and optional sprint booster functionality. The MDC is also easy to turn off for service if needed, via a switch on the control board, vs needing a jumper plug for the Area451....Mr. Woodward
I installed mine couple of days ago and it's great. I agree with .... on the MDC unit and you don't have to run the cable all the way to the back of the car. The Speed Booster really make a big different on the accelaration.... Mr. Wong

Parts look factory (because they are), these are used by smart in the roadsters in Europe. I suggest the remote LED kit if you want to easily program some of the features...

"...1. Everything is plug and play... even the optional led. No splicing of wires or soldering required. Very nice.
2. Instructions were very clear and easy to follow. It took me a total of an hour and a half to do it all including the led install.
3. I highly recommend the led. It makes setting the level of speed boost and the defaults for how the cruise works extremely easy. If you don't have it, you have to leave the control box that is in the middle by the floor between the driver and passenger exposed so you can see the led on that box to tell what is set.
4. The cruise control works great. It matches the existing controls nicely. I love how the led flashes green to tell you it is ready to set and then turns solid green when it is actually keeping your speed.
5. Speed Booster - all i can say is wow - no more hesitation when pressing that gas pedal. I could not replicate the response this thing gives my by simply just pressing down harder on the gas. I set it on level 4 of 5 and I now feel I can drive around in Drive mode a majority of the time. Prior to this I was always manually shifting.
6. The smartmadness people (yea Rachel) were very helpful and alway eager to answer any questions.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY
AGREEMENT GOVERNING PURCHASE AND USE OF AFTERMARKET CRUISE CONTROLS
This agreement is made by and between SMART MADNESS having a principle place of business at Signal Hill, CA 90755 and the (“Customer”), whose decides to purchase this cruise control unit.
Customer desires to purchase and aftermarket cruise control unit. In exchange for the right to obtain the cruise controls, the Recipient acknowledges and agrees to the following terms and conditions.
1. Risk of Repair. CUSTOMER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT PRODUCTS MAY CONTAIN INTERNAL POWER SUPPLIES THAT ARE EXPOSED WHEN THE UNIT IS OPENED. CUSTOMER FURTHER ACKNOWLEDGES THAT OPENING UNIT CAN RESULT IN RISK, AND IF NOT PROPERLY PERFORMED, POSSIBLY INJURY OR DEATH TO USER. ACCORDINGLY, CUSTOMER AGREES THAT OPENING UNIT AND REPLACING COMPONENTS CAN BE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND THAT CUSTOMER IS PROCEEDING AT THEIR OWN RISK.
2. Repair by Qualified Technician Only. Customer agrees that products are not intended to be opened by the general user and that any replacement of damaged or defective components should only be performed by a qualified technician.
3. Release of All Claims Against SMART MADNESS. Customer hereby agrees to release SMART MADNESS, it's owners, management, sales and installation staff from any and all claims and liabilities for personal injury or property damage, including damage to the unit under repair or other equipment, which occurs as a result of either opening or replacing components and or product failure.
4. No Liability for Consequential Damages. IN NO EVENT SHALL SMART MADNESS, the owners, management and staff BE LIABLE TO YOU FOR ANY CONSEQUENTIAL, SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, OR INDIRECT DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING OUT OF THE USE OF THE CRUISE CONTROL OR DEFECTS IN THE PRODUCT, INCLUDING LOST PROFITS, DAMAGE TO PROPERTY AND, TO THE EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, DAMAGE FOR PERSONAL INJURY, EVEN IF SMART MADNESS HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. SMART MADNESS’S LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM, LOSSES, DAMAGES OR INJURY, WHETHER CAUSED BY BREACH OF CONTRACT, TORT, OR ANY OTHER THEORY OF LIABILITY, SHALL NOT EXCEED THE FEE PAID BY YOU FOR THE CRUISE CONTROL.
5. Termination of Warranty on Products. Opening products or replacing components may cause damage to the unit itself or its components. Customer agrees that it will bear sole responsibility for any damage occurring during the component replacement process, and that any such damage will void any warranty rights it may have in the unit. Customer agrees to be bound by manufacturer’s and SMART MADNESS’s decision to deny warranty coverage for any portion of unit under repair damaged by Customer’s replacement of spare parts.
6. Warranty on Cruise Controls. SMART MADNESS warrants that the MDC Cruise Controls conform substantially to the specifications contained in the product documentation when used in accordance with the specifications of the unit under repair for one (1) year from the date of original purchase from an authorized resellers. In the case of a valid warranty claim, your sole and exclusive remedy and SMART MADNESS’s entire liability under any theory of liability will be, at it’s option, to repair or replace the part(s) without charge or, if not possible, to refund the purchase price to you. This warranty is not transferable; it applies only to the original purchaser of the product. SMART MADNESS will not accept responsibility for loss or damage in transit. This warranty is void if the product has been damaged by misuse, modification or unauthorized repair.
7. Governing Law. This agreement shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the law of United States of America. The parties irrevocably submit for the benefit of SMART MADNESS to have any legal issues resolved through arbitration and not through court. The party that chooses arbitration shall be responsible for all costs involved if it is found that SMART MADNESS and its associates are at no fault n respect of any claim, dispute or difference arising out of or in connection with this agreement or any Contact.
8. Entire Agreement. This agreement constitutes the entire agreement between the parties and supersedes all prior or contemporaneous oral or written agreements with respect to the subject matter contained herein. This Agreement may only be changed by mutual agreement of authorized representatives of the parties in writing. MDC
