Not satisfied with what is currently available in HID kits for the smart car we at SMART MADNESS designed one of our own. This kit has been designed with performance, durability and ease of installation in mind.
HID lights assist the driver tremendously in providing an expanded view of what is ahead. Essentially they enhance your overall view by providing you to see an extended and lengthened stretch of the road. HID lights play a crucial role in the overall safety of the driver by enabling you to identify dangerous obstacles effortlessly and more rapidly. The HID life expectancy is up to 10 times longer than the factory halogen Bulbs.
The SMART MADNESS smart car HID system that we provide are convenient and unique in their construction. The ballast and igniter are the best on the market. Our smart car HID kits eliminate any cutting, adjusting, or reposition of any sort on your part. Additionally, there are no modifying procedures necessary to secure the ballast since they are all built in. The sealed packaging of the system is water and dust resistant. Every component included in our HID kits are guaranteed to be authentic and in brand new condition.

The SMART MADNESS smart car 8000K HID replacement system / bulb kit has an approximately 25501m output, which is 3x the light output of the traditional halogen light and slightly less light output compared to the 6000K HID light. Although it has a bit lesser light output, it emits pure whiter light with very slight and barely noticeable tint of blue and purple. Please note: most customers have a common misconception that the higher the K (Kelvin temperature) the brighter it gets, but in fact, it is the opposite. The K rating is inversely proportional to the light output, therefore the lower the K the brighter the light output. Also Xenon H.I.D. runs cooler and than your traditional halogen, therefore it will not melt your housing.
The kit is available to both low beams and high beams. This listing is for the low beam set.
Unlike all the other kits in the marketplace this kit was designed for the smart. Don't settle for the troublesome one model fits all HID kits. This HID conversion kit is very easy to install since we designed it for the smart car from the start. It is all enclosed and should take less than 15 minutes to install from start to finish.
As with all aftermarket HID kits this kit is sold for off road and show use only. HID conversion kits may not be legal for road use in some areas. Please check your local laws prior to ordering.
Installation instructions:
1. Unlatch and remove the front panel (Hood) to gain access to the headlights
2. Reach behind the headlight and remove the rubber weather cap located on the back of the headlight. There are two caps on the headlights. The larger cap is for the low beam light and is located closest to the outside fender. The smaller flatter cap is for the high beams.
3. Once you remove the rubber cap you will see the light bulb. Remove the spring and take out the bulb.
4. Unplug the plug from the back of the bulb.
5. Carefully install the new bulb back in to the light housing. Do not touch the bulb with your hands (use a clean rag or a paper towel). Make sure you align the bulbs in to the guide slots in the headlight housing. If you do not align the bulb and secure it properly the light will not shine correctly. Please check the pictures below for the proper way to install the bulb. If the bulb is installed incorrectly you will get a shadow in the light output.
6. Install the new springs that are supplied in the kit (loops need to press down onto the spring. If the it is not the bulb may move. Make sure the spring fits snugly against the back of the bulb).
7. Attach the harness plug on the new ballast to the original light bulb plug (part of the stock wiring harness). The stock wire harness has a brown wire that is ground/negative. The new harness has a black wire for a ground/negative. Plug the two in to each other. The two remaining are positive. Plug them to each other.
8. Attach the small 3-wire plug into the new light bulb that is now mounted inside the light housing.
9. Carefully tuck the wiring in to the underside of the new supplies weather cap/ballast and attach to the back of the headlight housing.
10. Secure the weather cap/ballast to the housing with the supplied clamp.
11. You are done! The installation should take about 10-15 minutes per light.
Troubleshooting:
1. The headlight is not turning on - Please double check and make sure the connection is solid. You may have a loose wire.
2. The headlights do not give off sufficient light - The bulb is not secured properly in place. Remove the ballast and light bulb. Reinstall the light bulb and make sure it is placed in to the guide slots that are located in the back of the light housing. If this is not done the bulb will be misaligned.
3. The lights are not even - You may need to adjust your lights. Each light has an adjustment screw that is located on the top side of the headlight. Look for a round, White adjustment screw located on the top of the headlight. Park your car on even ground in the evening and shine the headlights on to a wall. While they are on turn the adjustment knob to raise or lower the light until they are even.
4. The light has a shadow - the bulb is installed incorrectly. Please check pictures below.
